Email marketing is a surefire way to get important information regarding announcements, events, and screenings from your cinema to moviegoers! Audience, schedule, and content are imperative when crafting your cinema’s email marketing strategy. Check out these 5 tips to optimize your cinema’s email marketing below!



1. Build Your Email List 📧


Don’t have an email list? Get started today! Compiling email addresses seems daunting, but here are a few easy strategies to begin your list today.


☑️ Create a light box/pop-up box on your website. Loyal moviegoers will input their email and to stay up-to-date on everything at your cinema. 

☑️ Incentivize moviegoers with discounts for subscribing to your email list. Give (2) free movie tickets to those that subscribe to your emails for a limited time. Limited time offers motivate patrons to take advantage of these types of deals.

☑️ Leverage your loyalty subscriber list. If your cinema has a loyalty program, subscribe your loyalty members to your email list. Your most loyal patrons will definitely want to know about fun events at your cinema!


2. Craft Engaging Content 🖋️


Try to grab moviegoers with your content! Be sure to include more than just your showtimes when sending emails. Include any concessions, discounts, events, and upcoming promotions to keep subscribers opening and clicking links in your emails. Avoid text-heavy emails by including images, graphics, and gifs! Be sure to include links to events, your website for ticket purchase, and any other helpful information. 


Get creative! Try a weekly film trivia question at the bottom of your emails for film buffs. This gets your subscribers to scroll through your entire email, so they’ll see all of your offers, announcements, etc.


3. Track Performance + Monitor Analytics 🔎


Once you’ve sent a few emailers, use your email marketing platform (mailchimp, toast, etc.) to look at each individual email’s analytics. Track your emails performance by open rates (how many subscribers are open your email), click through rates (CTR) (how many subscribers are clicking on links to buy tickets, access your website, etc.), and unsubscribed rate (how many people unsubscribed from your email list). Monitor these analytics to determine which content lead to high open + CTR rates and which emails had lower open rates.


4. Set Your Schedule 🗓️


Avoid inundating subscribers with emailers by creating a schedule. Access your analytics to determine the dates your followers are more likely to open emails based on day of the week and time of day. Coordinate which days you send out event announcements, concession updates, and film showings.


5. Create Attention Grabbing Subject Lines 😲


Subject lines can be tricky, but they’re essential to grab the attention of subscribers. Short, sweet, and to the point is the perfect motto for subjects. Make sure your subject lines are clear, understandable, and less than 60 characters. Use action oriented words (ex. Grab Your Red One Tickets Today!) Use emojis for an extra fun flair! Be sure you avoid spam trigger words when writing subject lines, so your emails aren’t getting blocked by spam filters. (Ex. buy now, order now, make money, click below, etc.)
