The Paris Olympics have ended and the torch has been passed to LA for the 2028 games. The USA led the medal countย with 40 golds, 44 silvers, and 42 bronze medals and women accounted for 65% of Team USAโs Gold Medals๐ฅ! The 26 gold medals won are the most won by a womenโs team in a single Olympics! From gymnastics, soccer, track & field, basketball, and every sport in between, USA women killed it at the Paris Olympics.
The Golden Girls โญ
The US Womenโs Artistic gymnastics team did what they do best at this yearโs Paris Olympicsโwin! Led by the GOAT herself, Simone Biles, the self-proclaimed Golden Girlsย won another team gold medal, medals in the individual silver & bronze medals in the individual all-around and medals in the floor routine, vault, and uneven bars. What canโt they do!
The women worked as a team to support each other, perform at the absolute highest level, and have a little fun on TikTok! And we forgot to mention that their team gold ๐ฅ medal extends a 32-year medal streak for Team USA gymnastics at the Olympics!
The Track Girlies ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐จ
Records are meant to be broken! The USA Womenโs Track team broke records on records on records.ย
Sydney McLaghlin-Levrone won the 400m hurdles in 50.37 seconds, breaking her OWN world record for the 6th time! The last time McLaughlin-Levrone lost a 400m hurdles race was in 2019! Her gold medal race extended her undefeated streak to 25 races. ๐ค
After Valerie Allmanโs gold medal performance in the discus, she became the first American discus thrower to win back-to-back gold medals. She also holds the national discus record and the next 11 farthest discus throws in national history.
Gabby Thomas won the 200m, surpassing Julien Alfred (St. Lucia), the winner of the 100m. Thomas went on to win a gold medal in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays with Team USA. A triple gold medalist, a Harvard grad, andย a health advocate + volunteer in her hometown, Thomas is killing it on and off the track! ๐
ShaโCarri Richardson got her much deserved redemption in the 100m with a silver medal. She anchored the womenโs 4x100m relay and led Team USA to gold. Oh, and she became one of the best memes to come out of the Paris Olympics. We consider that a win-win-win!
Swimming to Gold ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
Katie Ledecky ๐ holds the top 30 fastest recorded times of the 800m freestyle and the top 20 fastest times in the 1500m freestyle. Now, the most decorated woman athlete from Team USA (second only to Michael Phelps), sheโs been dominating races since her Olympic debut as a 15-year-old in the London 2012 Olympics. In Paris, she finished the 1500m freestyle 10 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, which spawned the iconic empty pool meme. We canโt wait to see the GOAT in LA in 2028.
Katie Grimes is the first American woman in history to swim in a pool and an open water race! She competed in the 400m IM and the 1500m freestyle in the pool and the 10km race in the Seine. Two distinct races with different challenges, Grimes earned a silver medal in the 400m IM and went down in history!
8 Straight Gold Medals ๐
Aโja Wilson and Breanna Stewart led Team USAโs womenโs basketball team to an unfathomable 8th straight gold medal. The team hasnโt lost an Olympic game since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics!ย
With 10.9 million viewers, the gold medal game was a nail biter. Nonetheless, the USA held onto their lead and won the game 67-66. The Team USA womenโs basketball team is the most dominant Olympic team of all time, while Diana Taurasi made history as the first basketball player in history to win 6 gold medals with Team USA!
The First Ever USA Rugby Medal ๐
The USA womenโs sevens rugby team came back from a disappointing performance at Tokyo to win a bronze medal in Paris. The first medal ever won by the USA womenโs rugby team was earned in the final moments of the match with a breakaway run by Spiff Sedrick for a game tying try. With all of the regular team kickers subbed-out, Sedrick stepped up to kick the conversion, earning 2 points cementing a bronze medal and making USA history!
Soccer Redemption โฝ
A new coach and a team refresh led to the US womenโs national teamโs (USWNT) first gold medal game appearance and win since the London 2012 games. Emma Hayes, the current coach of Chelsea FCโs womenโs team, implemented a new strategy that proved to be a success. Led by Triple Espresso (Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson) who scored goals in the last 3 Olympic matches and 10 of the 12 USA Olympic goals in Paris, the USWNT is the most decorated womenโs national soccer team in the world with 4 World Cup wins โญ and 5 gold medals!
Weโre so proud of Team USA and their performance at the Olympics. Congrats to all of the athletes and their incredible performances, especially these dominant women!ย
And remember, ๐ฃ๏ธ๐ฃ๏ธ๐ฃ๏ธ
